Environmental consideration is embedded in our design philosophy. With Oldham Studios approaching its eighth decade, we need to constantly change and evolve the way we do business.  We have embraced the notion that we are not singular, but we are a part of a whole.  Our world requires everyone to play a part making correct choices that leave the smallest mark on this world.  We are excited to incorporate this notion in our developmental and design strategy - creativity, functionality and global awareness.  Our primary goal is to develop great products and business settings for our customers while incorporating an underlying commitment to the world we live in.  We have the power to make things better.

 

At Oldham Studios, we take efforts to minimize our footprint in the environment. We address our own consumption, review our suppliers efforts, examine raw materials and strive to minimize our impact. Our latest internal efforts include changing standard lighting fixtures to energy saving / environmentally safe fixtures located throughout our warehouses and offices. We have identified solvent free materials that are safe to the environment and to the well-being of our team. We buy locally. We search and supply recycled and renewable materials.

 

capital one project 

Our customers take part in this vision as well.  Recently, we teamed up with Capital One to refurbish a 20'x20' island display in a "green driven" design approach. The outcome was impressive. We realized that costs were similar to the alternate, non-green approach. We were able to build with materials that have a considerably smaller impact to our environment. We also decreased its weight and shipping scale that added to its long term value. Here is a brief overview of this project.

 

Capital One display

tower wall panels:

  • refurbish panels using wall fabric that uses and reuses recycled materials in the production and fabrication process - Partially recycled product
  • apply with solvent free adhesives - no VOC's
  • reuse core materials from existing display - increase life span

tower signage

  • cross bracing using aluminum - fully recyclable material
  • use of maple plywood - grown, manufactured and supplied locally

lighting

  • upgraded to 22w LED arm lights from 500w halogen arm lights - reduction of electrical consumption

curved headers and uprights

  • structure designed with 100% aluminum - fully recyclable material
  • powder coat painted finish - no solvents used in application

workstations

  • maple plywood construction - renewable material, no solvents used in manufacturing, locally manufactured
  • laminate finish - recycled materials used in manufacturing, minimal manufacturing waste
  • bamboo block counter tops - renewable material, natural oil finish, no solvents used

carpet and underlayment

  • Carpet made from 62%

     

    post-consumer recycled content known as "recycled staple polyester fiber" - made from 100% plastic beverage bottles - minimal raw materials
  • padding manufactured from recycled materials and reprocessed - an endless cycle of remanufacturing - minimal raw materials 

 

The success of the Capital One project is testament to the reduction of environmental impact we can achieve.  As cleaner products emerge, we will help to make our world a better place. We can move ahead with common global intentions without sacrificing quality and design.  We can share the successes with our customers and keep moving forward towards a better future.
